DTV “hard date” moved to June 12

The DTV Delay Act has just passed through the House of Representatives and will soon be signed by the President. This will change the cutoff date for analog broadcasts from February 17 to June 12. Although according to the FCC up to 61% of analog broadcasters will still be able to switch off before the new date. So for those of you who have not yet switched here is a bit more time.

Roku Adding Amazon Video On Demand

Amazon and Roku just announced that in early 2009 the Netflix Roku player will be adding access to Amazon’s Video-on-Demand library. This will allow all of you Roku owners to get all of the newly released movies right on your TV the same day they come out. Amazon’s service allows you to purchase new releases as well as their over 40,000 other titles. No word on exactly when this will come out other then early 2009 via a firmware update.

Roku Firmware Updates To HD Netflix Streaming

The LG BD300 just got the update for HD Netflix streaming and now following along the Roku player is getting an HD update. There is now official word of when the update will be out to everyone.

LG’s BD300 Blu-ray Player Gets HD Firmware

LG’s BD300 Blu-ray player is finally getting a firmware update which allows it to play HD streaming Netflix content. The firmware update is vBD8.11.480 and is also supposed to fix some small bugs with the player.

Wide Scale Analog Shutoff Test

On December 17 Washington D.C. and 29 states will be shutting of analog TV broadcasts to test before the digital tv transition. There are many PSAs running to warn you of the test, but just in heres your warning. So if your still running analog tv you will want to check the list bellow to see if your tv signal is going to be shutoff.

YouTube Soon To Stream Full-Length TV & Film

MGM Partners with YouTube

YouTube the most popular video sharing site on the planet is about to start streaming TV and film from Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer’s archives. Better Know as MGM, the studio is doing a deal with YouTube to show full-length action films like Bulletproof Monk and The Magnificent Seven and clips from popular movies like Legally Blonde. However they will kick off their partnership by showing episodes of the original American Gladiators. All of these will of course be free to watch, with ads running alongside the video.
